Traditional Groups

The word 식구 shikgu (family member) is thought to be very powerful and valuable in a traditional Korean society. Thus, traditional Korean families have very close and inseparable ties with each other. As a result, it was common for extended families to gather together, especially during the special occasions such as 한가위 hangawi (autumn harvest festival), and 설날seolnal (Korean New Year), and performed 제사 jaesa (ancestral rituals).
