Description
The Variety Club Heart Hospital, a hospital built specifically for the care and treatment of persons afflicted with heart disease, admitted the first patients on March 20, 1951. A Dedication Dinner was held in the main ballroom of Coffman Memorial Union that same evening at 6:30p.m.
George Grim served as master of ceremonies. Bob DeHaven interviewed patients from the hospital. Actresses Loretta Young and Vera Ellen spoke, along with members of the Variety Club of the Northwest. University of Minnesota President James Morrill and Medical School director Dr. Harold Diehl spoke on behalf of the University. Film trailers starring Abbott and Costello, Danny Kaye, Adolph Menjou, and Alan Ladd were also presented. The program was broadcasted from radio station WCCO from 9:00-9:30p.m.
