The Island Debate Revisited
The name "Antilia," appears on a map for the first time that we know of in the 1424 Nautical Chart;
the names "Saya," "Santanzes," and "Ymana" also are shown for the first time (Cortesão 1954, pp. 1, 63, 105).
Could the islands shown to the west on this portolan chart have been a destination for voyages? The question has been the source of much scholarly debate.
