Arthur Geisert was born in Dallas Texas. In 1963, he graduated from Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska, with a BS and from the University of California Davis with a M. A. in 1965. Geisert did additional study at Chouinard Art Institute, Otis Art Institute, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Trained as a teacher of primary grades and art, he soon discovered that his real passion was in the studio and not the classroom. He struggled for years as he worked at selling his etchings and building two homes. This carpentry skill played a part in several of his books. In the end, an editor from Houghton Mifflin came to him after seeing his etchings at an exhibit, which resulted in his first picture book.
