"The Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard (1813-55) was one of the most original and penetrating religious, psychological, and philosophical thinkers and writers of the 19th century. He often communicated his ideas indirectly–ironically–in order to entice each of his readers to undertake a personal search for existential and religious truth. In collaboration with the Hong Kierkegaard Library at St. Olaf College in Northfield, the Department of German, Scandinavian and Dutch is proud to announce a one-day conference–“Kierkegaard and Irony”–to be held at the Elmer L. Andersen Library on the West Bank of the U of M’s Minneapolis campus, which will address a deep and intriguing concern within the humanities." Cosponsored by The Department of German, Scandinavian, and Dutch, The Center for German and European Studies, The Department of Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature, The Department of Philosophy, and The University Libraries.
