Photograph of facsimile of the First Edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica, Chicago: Encyclopedia Britannica, 2005. Encyclopedia is divided into three volumes, and the photograph features the spines of the volumes, centered on the title and volume number text. Volumes are bound in mottled brown leather with text in gilt lettering on dark red backgrounds. The volume numbering is set above the alphabetical scope of each volume (e.g. “A-B,” “C-L,” and “M-Z”) and separated by a decorative line. Each of the spines has uniform raised bands lined in gilt. Other books are visible in the edges of the photo frame.
