Road to the Temple of Honour and Fame game board, several small portraits of noblemen aligned, behind them is a royal garden

Description

Photographic scan of game board for Road to the Temple of Honour and Fame, London: John Harris, 1811. The title and subtitle of the game is centered at the top of the board in serif and cursive black type on mottled cream background. Illustration is a hand-colored etching and features a small Greco-Roman temple at the top and descending rows of smaller illustrations in bordered ovals. These oval “steps” of the board game form a zig-zagging path from the bottom of the board to the temple at the top, with a different small illustration (e.g. a soldier, a bird, a ship, etc.) etched into each step. The steps are backgrounded by a lush green surface of leaves and branches. The bottom of the board is anchored by a checkered boulevard lined by Classical statues, with children playing in the middle. In the bottom corners of the board, pairs of swans float on rippling water surfaces.
