Operating Room
Box 66
Dear Miss Rufsvold:
I would like to request that the operating room secure
one P-Wave pacemaker from Medtronics for use in patients.
This is a new type of pacemaker for use in patients
suffering block after open heart surgery and its advantage is the fact
that it should increase the efficiency of the heart's action when in block
and under electrical stimulation about 25 - 35% beyond the conventional
pacemakers that we now have. This could be a very important factory
in making the difference between survival and non-survival in the first
24 - 48 hours in some poor risk patients.
The cost of this pacemaker is $700. If you should desire
or want any additional information, I would be very happy to talk to you
or Mr. Frawly about this.
Most sincerely yours,
C. Walton Lillehei, M.D.
