Doctor Walton C. Lillehei,
University of Minnesota,
The Medical School
Minneapolis 14, Min.
Dear Dr. Lillehei:
It might surprise you to hear from me and I don't blame you,
because I should have written you long time ago. Anyhow, I want
to drop you a few lines, first to thank you for all the kindness
and help you showed to me while I was in your home town and then
to say hello to you and everybody of the Surgical Staff.
As I said while visiting your wonderful University and Hos-
pital, I am working on Surgery and up to day I have performed 20
operations on dogs with the De Wall Oxygenator, reporting only one
death was reported, I did my first open heart on patient with an
I-A septal defect with success, we clamped off the cavas for six
minutes, the patient stood the procedure nicely and today he is
going home. I know that this was possible only because of the -
opportunity I had of watching you and Dr. Lewis as well as Dr. -
Varco, on the contrary it would have taken me longer to be able to
accomplish such results, therefore and once again I want to thank
you very much.
I am planning to go back for another month and a half - do
not know yet what the date will be, but I will let you know ahead
of time.
With my best regards for your wife and family and hoping to
see you soon, I remain,
Sincerely yours,
Raul Baz, M.D.
P.D.- Will you kindly send me some reprints on your latest papers
because I haven't got any ever since I left.
Thank you.
