Raina Telgemeier's autobiographical graphic novel Smile tells the story of her childhood from sixth grade through tenth grade. Raina just wants to have fun with her Girl Scout troop and have a drama-less school year, but a series of troubles falls upon her. She faces a series of dental disasters; braces, headgear, injured front teeth, retainers, and surgery. Raina must also deal with boy troubles and friends that are not as nice as they seem. Smile brings readers through a story of navigating school, relationships, and self-acceptance.
