Photograph of Angela Bambace with David Dubinsky, president of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU), at the union’s 50th anniversary in 1950. As a union organizer for the ILGWU in Baltimore during the 1930s, Bambace lead a successful labor action by women tailors against an employer planning to pay them less than their male counterparts. She was head of the Maryland-Virginia ILGWU and was eventually elected as the union’s Vice President. Her election was significant in a union that had mostly female members, but primarily male national leadership.
