Letter, Edward E. Nicholson, Dean of Student Affairs, to Robert B. Gile, Business Manager of The Minnesota Daily, January 20, 1921

On January 20, 1921, Edward E. Nicholson, Dean of Student Affairs, wrote to Robert B. Gile, Business Manager of The Minnesota Daily, to return a letter received by Ina Firkins, Reference Librarian of the University Library.

The letter prompted Nicholson to advise Gile that “it is proper and wise for the Library to be furnished with a complete file of the ‘Minnesota Daily’ without cost.” By doing so, “the Library is serving the ‘Daily.’”

The library has continued to serve the Daily by preserving records created by University students, alumni, faculty, staff, and administrators, in the University of Minnesota Archives.

Beyond the records preserved in the Ariel and The Minnesota Daily Student Newspaper and Magazine collection, UMN Archives also preserves personal papers, autobiographies, students organization records, audio recordings, oral histories, and administrative files of departments and offices in physical and digital form.

Those that have donated records or documented their experiences through various mediums and methods, have helped to preserve the history - and spirit - of the University of Minnesota.

On the following pages, view examples of some of the individuals and organizations that have helped to preserve the history of The Minnesota Daily.
