Following the successful publication of the daily supplement FOOT BALL during the fall of 1899, Ariel editors invited readers to submit feedback regarding a potential change in the format and frequency in distribution of the newspaper.
After receiving only a few letters that conveyed divided opinions, the Board of Editors scheduled a meeting of the ArielAssociation to discuss the proposed plans and elicit participation from subscribers to determine the efficacy of a daily publication.
The “clippings” presented below include letters to the editor, articles, and editorials published in Ariel issues between November 1899 and March 1900 that document opinions expressed, meetings held, and policies proposed and adopted that lead to the establishment of The Minnesota Daily.
These sources provide insight into the process of self-governance in the organization of student activities.
