The celebrated author of a wide array of books for children and teens about the African American experience, Walter Dean Myers grew up in Harlem in the 1940s. The 10 stories in this collection were directly inspired by Romare Bearden's collage "The Block," now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
